Governance

1. The Kingdom of Onondaga will operate the way we think a medieval kingdom might have. While this was sometimes democratic in nature, very often it was not. In particular, the general populace would discuss matters of interest and bring them before the Court; the Court will discuss the matter and then bring the matter before the Liege Lord who will then decide to poll the Council for a decision or he may choose to decide the matter himself without recourse or vote.

2. All adult regular members are allowed and encouraged to voice their opinions, however no member shall insult, ridicule, or defame another member because of that member’s opinion.

a. While the Kingdom believes that every adult member has the right to be heard, there is no guarantee that every person’s opinion will be taken to the Liege Lord or subsequently considered for vote.

b. For reasons of clarity and consideration members are encouraged to state their opinions or ideas clearly and logically but also with haste.

c. Members are encouraged to converse with one another prior to general meetings so that the general meeting can be as brief as practical.

3. Once discussions on a matter have come to a point where no new opinions, information or logical argument are being offered, the Liege Lord will call a halt to the discussion. The Liege Lord may poll the Court for a decision or may he may choose to decide the matter himself without recourse or vote.

4. It is the responsibility of the Liege Lord to guard the objectives and ideals of the Kingdom so that it operates to achieve the stated objectives.

5. The Liege Lord has the power to veto any action the populace or court might vote to take. The Liege Lord’s power to veto overrides otherwise unanimous votes by the court and is beyond contestation.
