What to Wear
Our Guild does not require Members to dress alike! Instead, your basic faire attire should be representative of your character's personality, profession, rank or station in life. From Peasant to Nobility many sources for clothing exist and are readily available for purchase at stores, online or at the festival itself. Most people spend a lot of time in preparing their costumes either by their own hand or in the design of something commissioned to be made on their behalf. You will have the most fun and gain the most reward with this approach, however something right off the shelf or in your own closet can be just as appropriate…for instance:
- Natural leather shoes, boots or sandals
- Blousy shirts or dresses in natural colors
- Layered skirts in tincture colors
- Natural leather vests
- Snug fitting pants without pockets if possible
- “Medical scrub style” pants in natural colors work great
- Brown of black leather belt – longer the better
- Wooden or pewter tankard or goblet – A tankard of ale or goblet of vino is always a blessing!
Remember, the intent should be to make your visit to the event enjoyable not just for you but also for those patrons around you who have come to experience the renaissance or medieval environment. In addition, the better your costume the more you'll be asked to pose for pictures with those “silly little soul stealing magic boxes” and it's a great way to meet new folks!
It should be general practice to check with someone regarding the proper dress code for and Official Kingdom event so you do not show up under or over dressed. For instance, our Annual King's Feast is a formal event and this is where you can show off your best Court outfit. However, a typical day at faire or festival may normally a bit less formal.
Also, keep in mind that sun glasses had not yet been invented during the medieval or renaissance periods so members attending in costume should refrain from wearing them during the event...unless of course they are necessary by prescription.
Additionally, Black-Berries were a fruit and cell phones also had not been invented so you may not want to walk around with those silly little devices (except for emergencies of course) because you are sure to be called out and possibly embarrassed by other renaissance folks!
