OFFICERS OF THE KINGDOM

  1. When deemed applicable, the affairs of the Kingdom shall be administered by a Council consisting of the Sovereign Liege, who shall chair the council; a Master at Arms (Seneschal); Captain of the Royal Guard; Commodore of the Navy; Scribe; Tax Collector; Herald and at least one (1) or two (2) additional Active Members.
  1. The Sovereign Liege's position is not an elective office, but is held by the founder of Kingdom of Onondaga. Should the Sovereign Liege take ill, he shall appoint a successor who shall hold the office in like manner until his return.

Officers and Duties:

Sovereign Liege (King) – Shall oversee all the affairs and governance of the Kingdom of Onondaga and its general populace while strictly upholding the ideals, vision and objectives as set forth in these By-Laws.

Master-at-Arms (Seneschal) – Is responsible for executing the commands of the Sovereign Liege, maintaining general order and ensuring that these By-Laws are being followed and enforced.

Captain of the Royal Guard – Is responsible for executing the commands of the Master-at-Arms in the protection of the Sovereign Liege and Members of Court including the instruction and general performance of the Royal Guard in the enforcement of the Rules of Conduct as outlined in Article 9 of these By-Laws.

Commodore of the Royal Navy – Is responsible for executing the commands of the Master-at-Arms in the maintaining, training and equipping of the combat-ready forces of the Royal Navy both on land and sea.

Sergeant of the Royal Guard – Is responsible for executing the commands of the Captain of the Royal Guard in the general supervision, preparation and discipline of all enlisted members of the Royal Guard and Reserves in the execution of the general orders: “to keep watch over, warn, protect, shield and/or defend the Sovereign Liege, Members of Court and/or any member of the general populace”.

Royal Guard and Reserves – Any armored Knight Member and/or existing Associate Member willing and able to actively participate in the fundamental execution of the general orders may join the honorary ranks of the Reserve Guard while any Active Member may join the full ranks of our Royal Guard.

Tax Collector – Is responsible for maintaining the Kingdom's coffers during official Kingdom gatherings and/or functions.

Scribe – Is responsible for maintaining all documents and registers at official Kingdom gatherings and/or functions.

Herald - Is responsible for calling to order and/or relaying important news to those of the general populace in attendance during official Kingdom gatherings and/or functions.

Wizard – Is responsible for the general maintenance of the Kingdom's home on the world-wide-web including all updates as submitted and approved by the Sovereign Liege.

  1. Master at Arms (Seneschal), Captain of the Royal Guard, Commodore of the Royal Navy, Sergeant of the Royal Guard, Tax Collector, Scribe, Herald and Wizard are also not elective, but appointed annually by the Sovereign Liege who shall carefully consider the capabilities, past performance and potential contributions of Active Members prior to appointing them to office.
  1. Remaining Members of Council may be elected by the general populace of Active Members using secret ballot with the exception of Article 6, Sections 2 & 3.
    1. All Active Members in good standing are eligible for consideration as an Officer of Council after a minimum of two (2) years service to the Kingdom. Associate members and minor children may NOT serve as Members of Court or Council.
    1. Candidates are to be nominated in writing by at least two (2) regular members using the nomination form provided by the Kingdom during a period starting ninety (90) days prior to the election through thirty (30) days prior to said election. The nomination form must contain the candidate's name, a short statement regarding the qualifications, printed names and signatures of the two (2) nominators. Members are allowed to nominate themselves.
    1. Members may withdraw themselves from candidacy by providing written notice to the Scribe at least fifteen (15) days prior to the election.
    1. If there is no more than one (1) candidate for the available offices, those candidates may be elected by default or the election may be postponed until further interest is shown.
    1. If there are more than two (2) candidates for the available offices, the following will apply:
      • The Scribe will prepare a ballot containing the names of all candidates and a clear large box to the left of each candidate's name for the purpose of marking preferences.
      • Each adult member shall mark the ballot using “A” for the first choice, “B” for the second choice, and so on.
      • The ballots will be tallied by the Scribe and results provided to the Sovereign Liege for confirmation and approval prior to announcement by the Herald.
      • In the event of a tie, a run-off ballot will be created and the voting process will repeat. Should there be a tie following the second round of voting, the Council Chair will cast the tie breaking vote.
  1. The Council will hold such meetings as business of the Kingdom requires.
  1. At any “Official Meeting of the Council”, the Sovereign Liege and at least three (3) other Members of the council shall constitute a quorum. Members of the council may be represented by proxies, duly signed and dated.
  1. The Scribe should be in attendance at all “Official Meetings of Council”, shall take the minutes of the proceedings, shall issue the notices of the meetings and shall initiate all necessary correspondence. In the event of the Scribe being absent from a meeting, the duties of the Scribe shall be carried out temporarily by any member of Council who shall be designated by the Council Chair for that meeting only.
